Our unique international project exploring what happens in the minds of students for whom arts and culture is a form of learning at school.
About the programme
In the project schools, a special, purpose-designed programme is implemented, where pilot students meet three times a week in a combination of art and the subject matter of the school. The students are active participants in the lessons, and are thus physically, mentally, socially and intellectually involved in the work together. Together, the teachers and artists of the programme create the Art of Learning, which becomes an integral part of school life for the students over the two years. The project aims to develop new ways of learning.

Why does it work?
There is a growing international consensus that art and creativity should play a greater role in school education, because through art and culture students acquire skills that are essential for success in today's world. Despite the importance of executive functions (self-control, flexibility of thought, working memory), there is little research experience available. This programme is the only one in the world to explore the need for and effectiveness of arts and culture in education. The toolkit developed during the project, and the project report due in 2024, will be freely available and it is hoped that the results will be used in as many areas as possible.
The results of the research carried out under the Art of Learning project could contribute to the following areas:
- a deeper understanding of what happens in the brain development of children who are actively engaged in creative arts activities
- contribute to the development of innovative, interdisciplinary and creative learning methods
- help to understand the possibilities for developing executive functions and treating underdeveloped VF
- increases the value of involving artists in schools
- increases interest in the arts and contributes to the participation of more children in arts and cultural activities
